Gary Rabideau -- C Company 4th Platoon -- 1970-1971
LT Donahue stopped by to visit
The local Vietnamese men
were put to work filling sand bags to line convoy trucks.
I thought that was a dead giveaway of our movements.
LT Donahue got burned while setting up a trip flare.
LZ Action had a lot of
firepower. The mortars were often set up near the artillery.
A lot of fire missions were done near dark & over night.
It was hard to get much rest at night.
The firebase was set up
to help protect convoys along the highway. The striped stakes
with flashlights on them are aiming stakes to line up the mortars
during firing.

photo Highway 19 can be seen leading into the eastern end
of the Mang Yang Pass.)
This is the main communication & operation bunker at LZ Action.
