1st Battalion 22nd Infantry Activation June 1986
The 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry
was officially inactivated at Fort Carson, Colorado in August
1984.
In November 1985 the Battalion was activated at Fort Drum, New
York . A formal Activation ceremony
with the uncasing of the Battalion Colors was held at Fort Drum
in early June 1986.
At the Activation 1-22 Infantry
consisted of four Companies:
HHC (Headquarters), A Company (Attack), B Company (Battle) and C
Company (Combat).
The Battalion was officially constituted as a Light Infantry
Battalion in the 10th (Mountain) Division.
On hand to assist in the
uncasing and presentation of the Colors was former Corporal Don
Chase,
an 85 year old veteran of the First World War who had served with
the 22nd Infantry in the 1920's.

Hensler recalled: "One of our wives, my wife doesn't recall
whom,
sewed the 10th Mtn patch on Cpl Chase's cap especially for the
activation ceremony. He was extremely excited about the Bn colors
'coming back to life.' "

Preceded
by the Honor Guard, Company Commanders of 1-22 Infantry followed
by their Guidon Bearers
