22nd Infantry Regiment - The Philippines 1899-1905

 

 

22nd Infantry near Pasig, Philippines 1899 - The caption reads:
"PORTION OF THE TWENTY-SECOND INFANTRY IN RESERVE NEAR PASIG
The photograph was taken during the progress of a battle at Pasig, on Laguna de Bay,
and shows a portion of the 22d United States Infantry waiting for orders to advance.
The picture is a good representation of how men appear and act
immediately before going into battle."

Ed., this photo appeared in several forms, in a number of books and publications
around the beginning of the 20th century. The webmaster has also a color tinted
version in his collection.

On the far left is John H. Stephens,
Company M 22nd Infantry, in the Philippines.
Date of photo is unknown. Presumably the
soldier on the right is also from Company M.
Note both soldiers are wearing the badge for
8th Corps on the front of their campaign hats.

John Henry Stephens was assigned as a Private
to Company M 22nd Infantry on December 21, 1898.
While with the Regiment he was promoted
to Corporal.

He was discharged on December 18, 1901.
