A WORD FROM YOUR CO
Every man in this company has
gone into the formation of the best Medical Company in the 4th
Division. Everyone has worked hard
and learned to use every bit of knowledge that has been taught to
give the best medical service to his fellow man. Each of you has
proven that, in time or need, you could be depended upon. Many
have received commendations for live-saving services
without respect to their own lives and safety
We have all worked hard to reach
the goal of preparedness to meet an aggressor at any cost. Often
disheartened and homesick,
we have continued to do our job in the best manner possible. The
NCO's and Officers have had faith in you and we have found
that faith well-founded.
To each and everyone of you
there has been a time when someone has, with reverence and trust,
called you "Doc."
It was then, that most of you realized that you held an important
position in the Infantry Regiment, and also
the importance of our mission; "To Conserve the Fighting
Strength."
All of us have stopped to think,
"Why am I here?" Listen to the radio, read the
newspapers and news magazines and
you will realize that you have been selected to defend your
homeland. And, although, we have just stood by alert and ready;
we all have accomplished part of our mission by our presence
here. Your country, family and I thank you for a job well done.
It has been one of my great
experiences in my Army career to have been your Company Commander
I wish each and everyone
of you the best for the future in military or civilian life, and
hope that you have found your experiences in the Army have taught
you much.
I also hope that it might have shown some of you a field of
endeavor in medicine, that you may "pursue in the service
of mankind without regard to self"
