Gene Senerchia Medical Detachment 22nd Infantry 1941-1945
The photos on this page are
believed to have been taken in 1942
while the 22nd Infantry was based at Camp Gordon, Augusta,
Georgia
Cover of booklet for the
4th Motorized Division
at Camp Gordon, Augusta, Ga 1942 - Gene's personal copy
The 4th Infantry Division was designated as the 4th Motorized
Division
from July 1941 to August 1943
Halftracks of the 22nd Infantry at Camp Gordon
Gene is in the front row
center holding up either a card or a cup in his right hand.
The three soldiers wearing the garrison cap have 22nd Infantry
insignia on their caps.
Eight soldiers are wearing the Model 1907 winter cap as modified
in 1940.
This winter cap appears to have only been worn by the 22nd
Infantry during the time
the 4th Infantry Division was designated as the 4th Motorized
Division.
Note the Staff Sergeant kneeling in front second from the right
has his 4th Division
shoulder sleeve insignia on the left front chest of his Model
1941 field jacket,
instead of on his left shoulder sleeve. This practice of wearing
the unit insignia this way
was done by armored formations of the U.S. Army during this era
and is probably
a reflection of the status of the 4th Division as a Motorized
Division at this time.
