Area of Operations in Iraq of 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry
During Operation Iraqi Freedom
the 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry carried out its duties
in the northern part of Iraq, with most of its activities
centered around the city of Tikrit.
Tikrit is the birthplace and ancestral home of Saddam Hussein.
This area was one place in Iraq where resistance continued,
and the Regulars of 1st Battalion were engaged in systematically
eliminating it.
