The following are taken from the Congressional Serial Set of 1900-
Report of Operations of the 2nd Division, Eighth Army Corps,
from May 31, 1899, to April 6, 1900

The reports cover activities of the 22nd Infantry during the months of
September, October, and December 1899.

 

 

 

 

 

 

     

2nd Lieutenant George S. Simonds,
who commanded the gunboat Oeste,
and gave the above report.

Simonds graduated from the US Military Academy
in 1895, and would spend some 43 years in the Army.
Sixteen of those years he served with the 22nd Infantry.

He rose to the rank of Major General,
and in 1935 was the Deputy Chief of Staff
of the Army.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the year 1899 the following losses were incurred by the 22nd Infantry.
Places of birth are listed when known.

KIA = Killed In Action

DOW = Died Of Wounds

DOD = Died Of Disease
( A catch-all phrase used in the 19th Century to denote any non-battle death)
