The following photos were among
the possessions of Charles Temple.
They were taken by a photographer named Christian Barthelmess.
Barthelmess was a member of the 22nd Infantry Regiment
for many years, as a musician and photographer,
and his photos are among some of the most significant taken
in the history of the westward expansion of the US.
It is not known whether
Barthelmess and Charles Temple were personal friends.
The original Barthelmess photos from the estate of Charles Temple
are now part of the collection of the Custer County Art &
Heritage Center
in Miles City, Montana. Miles City adjoins Fort Keogh,
where Charles Temple and the 22nd Infantry Regiment
were stationed during the late 1880's and early 1890's.
