In the letter Rankin gives the names and addresses of several other comrades from Company H 22nd Infantry:

Salzmann was born in Brandenburg, Germany. He served for ten years in the United States Army
during three enlistments, one in the Cavalry, one in the Infantry and one in the Artillery.
He served alosngside Elmore Nelson in Cuba and the Philippines.

In the letter Salzmann mentions another comrade of his and Elmore Nelson, Christ F. Seib.

Seib was born in Darmstadt, Germany. He enlisted in Company H 22nd Infantry in October 1898
and served alongside Elmore Nelson in the Philippines. According to Salzmann Seib had been the
Company clerk for Company H. Seib was transferred to the 13th Field Artillery for a short time
before returning to the 22nd Infantry where he rose to the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major.
His career is difficult to trace after 1907 when he was discharged from what may have been
his final enlistment in the 22nd Infantry. He was found to have served in the 21st Infantry
at least from the years 1911 -1914 where he rose from the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major
