72-----------1214----Cougar 13 spotted bunkers and a practical shack to the SE of the element.

73-----------1216----C Co now has 1 WIA & 1 KIA.

75-----------1220----A Co location YA845895, heard mortar pop 300' azimuth from there.

76-----------1222----Cougar 13 heard mortar pop in area - will fire in area.

77-----------1239----C Co CO believes 1 of guns received ground fire. Has been hit by ground fire, 1 pilot shotup bad.

78-----------1245----Dustoff will pick up wounded pilot in 7 minutes.

80-----------1248----A Co CO informed us he heard tubes pop from same azimuth.

84-----------1302----Dustoff of pilot completed at this time.

86-----------1312----Cougar 13 was 20' above tree level and received AK-47 rounds.

87-----------1313----D Co LZ has 8 WIA's to be dusted off, 4 are urgent. C Co has 2 WIA's to be dusted off & 1 KIA.

88-----------1316----Cougar 14 took 1 hit in his bubble and the pilot got hit by the round.

92-----------1400----D Co has heavy contact at this time.

95-----------1404----Gladiator 059 was fired at while leaving C Co LZ.

96-----------1405----B Co shot a sniper out of a tree.

101----------1422----D Co CO says he has sniper fire all around him.

102----------1428----B Co & D Co combined, 11 WIA's to be dusted off, 2 are litter cases.

104----------1437----Bde 44 says has airstrikes for 1515/1545/1605.

113----------1603----Dustoff of all WIA's is completed at this time.

114----------1605----B Co receiving incoming mortars and ground fire at this time.

115----------1607----C Co had movement to their front and reconned by fire.

119----------1627----Airstrike completed at this time.

121----------1640----C Co reached top of hill and ready to go over.

122----------1647----B Co received 1 B-40 & small arms at this time.

126----------1715----C Co has a couple WIA's. Don't know how many yet. Believes enemy is dug in and doesn't think

128----------1730----C Co has 2 WIA.

129----------1743----C Co has 4 WIA's to be dusted off and 1 KIA to be taken out.

133----------1758----B Co - 8 WIA's, 0 KIA/ C Co - 4 WIA's, 1 KIA/ D Co - 9 WIA's, 1 KIA.

138----------1827----Gladiator 5 received ground fire N of DZ of C Co.

145----------1905----B Co today had 15 WIA's - 9 dusted off and 2 to be dusted off tomorrow. 1 of them belongs to A Co.

151----------2200----From Bde CO: Indications are that the 66th NVA Regiment is prepared for combat in the 1/22 AO.
------------------------ The location of the 66th Regt is YA8289. Their combat operations will probably take place in the
------------------------ area of contact today.

152----------2205----From Bde: regarding secondary Arclight targets HA 416 grid: YA710830/ YA720830/ YA710850/
------------------------ YA720850 - no bombs before 270210 or after 270320/ / HA 410 grid: YA745855/ YA739863/

155----------2231----Request to Bde: (1) request airstrikes on a continued basis. We have known enemy targets and
------------------------ they will be needed to support maneuvers. (2) request 7/17 Cav conduct operations in 1/22 AO
------------------------ tomorrow. (3) request 2 quad 50's to enhance FSB perimeter defense. (4) consideration given
------------------------ to planning LRRP vicinity YA8488/ 8888/ 8887/ 8487. Primary area of entry is the valley running
------------------------ N & S. (5) Arclight at YA881887/ 811907/ 801907.

161--------------------Summary: 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry with A/1/12 Infantry Opcon continued recon and force operations
------------------------ in assigned AO with heavy contact. A,B,C & D Co's 1/22 heavy contact with Battalion size enemy force.
------------------------ Received B-40 rockets and mortar fire and small arms. Airstrikes and Arty and Gunships were employed.
------------------------ Friendly - 29 WIA's and 2 KIA's. Enemy casualties unknown, contact too heavy to sweep the contact area.
