10-----------0725----Airstrike today: (1) YA83884 at 0930hrs. (2) YA8584 at 1300 hrs.

18-----------0844----D Co location YA858875, K-9 alerted, something east of river.

19-----------0845----Co D reconning by fire as the dogs were alerted to something east of river.

35-----------1140----All elements of A Co have closed PB. 3rd platoon found a fresh trail at YA860913. The trail runs NE
------------------------along blue line in this area. Trail is just a few hours old. Tracker team says that 10-15 NVA using trail.

36-----------1200----The trail found by A Co 3rd platoon is approximately 2 ft wide & has trees over head hiding it.

42-----------1314----Airstrike completed at this time.

43-----------1320----C Co point has movement to the front.

53-----------1505----B Co 2nd & 3rd platoons & Hdq checked out of the assigned AO given to them by Bn 3. Found 1 trail
------------------------running to SE. Will work way NE to FSB.

56-----------1529----D Co has reached top of objective, discovered 6 NVA, took enemy under fire, enemy fled.

57-----------1534----D Co present location YA844891 - enemy closing from West & South.

58-----------1537----D Co in contact at this time w/unknown size enemy force.

59-----------1539----Bn 3 put in request for gunships.

62-----------1544----D Co believes that they are in contact with large force. Doesn't know what size yet.

63-----------1546----Do Co requested help fast - Bde trying to get guns as soon as possible.

64-----------1548----Guns enroute this time, are Cougar 13.

67-----------1602----D Co requesting basic load of ammo.

68-----------1611----D Co has 1 WIA.

69-----------1613----D Co needs ammo asap.

72-----------1623GlaGladiator 063 was hit, lost transmission oil pressure.

73-----------1625----Gladiator 063 crashed at FSB, requested dustoff from our A/C channel.

79-----------1701----So far D Co has 5 WIA, 4 not serious. Situation - sniper fire and most of the enemy have moved to the
------------------------west in a valley.

80-----------1704----Enemy was, they think, a company size unit.

81-----------1712----D Co in heavy contact at this time.

82-----------1715----D Co has 6 WIA - 2 for dustoff.

83-----------1717----D Co contact is light now.

84-----------1730----Dustoff D Co 1 WIA completed. Need 1 more.

85-----------1736---- D Co has 7 WIA of which 4 are for dustoff.

86-----------1737----D Co contact has quieted down. NVA fled west & NW. Did spot some to the west, about Co size.

88-----------1758----Wrap up of D Co contact: at YA844891 1st contact was with 6 people - fled to west, came back with
------------------------ larger force, we put in arty & gunships. D Co made contact on top of hill, are now on top of hill in perimeter.
-------------------------Had contact with Co size force, enemy fled W to NW, was a number of exchanges of fire, heavy & light.
-------------------------Results: 7 WIA, US, of which 4 needed dustoff. Negative results as far as can tell on enemy.

89-----------1822----Dustoff of 3 remaining litter cases completed at this time.

90-----------1825----D Co receiving sniper fire at this time from the SW. D Co confirming 2 NVA KIA.

94-----------1853----D Co situation report: everything quiet; getting positions fortified; breaking up ammo; checking out rest of
------------------------company.

96-----------2115----Final count of D Co WIA's - 10 WIA, 4 were dusted off today and 6 will be dusted off tomorrow. 3 wounds
------------------------were serious, the remaining 7 were minor but need Dr attention.

101----------2320----Request Snoopy mission tomorrow within the following grids: TA7692/YA9092/TA7687/YA8087.

102----------2345----Snoopy mission turned down.

104--------------------Summary: 1/22 continued search and destroy operations in assigned AO with heavy contact with enemy
------------------------forces. D/1/22 had contact at YA844891 with 6 enemy. Then enemy hit with large forces. Gunships, Arty
------------------------and Airstrikes were employed. Results: 2 NVA KIA and 10 US WIA. Area of contact will be swept
------------------------tomorrow morning for enemy bodies and equipment.--
