1st Battalion 22nd Infantry
B Company Veteran Receives ARCOMV
Through the efforts of his
former Company Commander Gil Tijerina and several of his
former fellow soldiers, David M. Brown was awarded the Army
Commendation Medal for Valor,
for actions he performed during the Battle of The Rock, in Binh
Dinh Province,
Republic of Vietnam, in June 1970.
David's award was in recognition
of his actions during the the Battle of The Rock, the largest
single engagement
fought by 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry in 1970. As a radio
operator, he exposed himself to enemy fire
while he coordinated artillery and air support for his platoon in
the battle, then turned his radio over
to another soldier so he could join his squad in returning fire
against the enemy.
