Terry R Goodermuth Sr.
May 7, 1936 - January 4, 2012
On Wednesday January 4, 2012 in
a quiet hospice room in Phoenix Arizona, a very courageous man
lost his battle
with an enemy that proved to be too much.
1st Sergeant Terry R Goodermuth Sr. "Papa", 75, born in
Gettysburg Pennsylvania on May 7, 1936 passed away peacefully
with love in his heart. Terry served his country during the
Korean and Vietnam wars in both the Marines and Army for 28 ½
years.
Terry had a love for his country that was only eclipsed by the
love he had for his family and grandchildren. Our father was a
recipient of the Purple Heart for a gunshot wound he received
during one of his tours in Vietnam. While serving his country,
Terry was awarded numerous service medals to include: a
Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge,
Expert Infantryman Badge, and the one he was most proud of his
Drill Sergeant Badge.
Terry retired from the military and went to work for the US Post
Office for 15 years, but his service to his country did not end
there.
While living in Arizona as a "Snow Bird" he joined the
local Lions Chapter to help serve the needy in his community. He
also
spent time teaching 1st grade kids about the importance of
patriotism at Sousa Elementary School in Mesa, AZ.
Terry is survived by his wife Juanita (Montero) married April
3rd, 1971, his son Terry (Margaret) Goodermuth, daughter
Christine (Steve) Born and his beloved Brandi. His grandchildren
are; Geoff, Alec, Aaron, and Gianna Goodermuth,
Myranda, Michaella, and Jordan Born. He is preceded in death by
his mother Sarah, father Raymond, brother Raymond,
his sons JD and Michael.
Dad, we are happy that you have found peace and are no longer
suffering. Now we must find the strength that you had
during your battle with cancer to move forward with you only in
our hearts. You have the love and admiration of not only
your family but all those you touched. A Celebration of his life
was held at Citrus Gardens in Mesa, AZ. A memorial service
will be held in Oshkosh, WI in the summer for family and close
friends. Hoo-rah Marine... Semper Fi!
