John "Pointman" Gabbert

Company D 1/22 Infantry

4th Infantry Division

July 1969-December 1969

John was shot in the afternoon on Dec 10, 1969, by an AK-47 round. Laying on the jungle floor for about 18 hours
before we could get him and Les Bowerman choppered out, John was sent to Qui Nhon, Japan, St. Alban’s (Queens, N.Y.)
and finally to the V.A. before being released in November of 1971.

He has undergone 22 surgeries and still has an open wound because of the infection. John is like many of our brothers
whose physical or other wounds have never healed from Vietnam.
