Michael Belis Company C 1/22 Infantry 1970-1971
An Khe April 1971
What had been a huge basecamp for the 1st Cavalry Division and
then the 4th Infantry Division had now shrunk to two
or three small rear base areas. The above base ran alongside the
airstrip, and was known to 1/22 Infantry as LZ Buffalo.
The 1/10 Cavalry had their Headquarters Troop there, and not much
else.
The river ran along the
eastern side of the perimeter, and at this time of the year
was very low.
An M-113 APC from the
1/10 Cav heads into the base. The trees in the upper left
is the area where the 1/10 had their headquarters.

The two tents in the left foreground, the jeep, and the connexes
behind the jeep
belonged to 1/22 Infantry. Company C was out in the field near LZ
Action to the west,
and I was part of the rear detachment handling their re-supply
from Buffalo.

Right next to our area
were four or more cages holding scout dogs or tracker dogs.
I believe this dog belonged to the 78th Infantry Platoon Combat
