Dave Prentice - 3rd Platoon Company B 1/22 Infantry July 18, 1969-June 14, 1970 (KIA)
Raymond Richard writes:
"This photo was taken shortly after we got dropped off on
Terrace. It looked to me
like it may have been an outpost that was abandoned. Thats me
sitting down close to the center of the photo.
(Shirt off and back to the camera.) Looks like I have a smoke in
my mouth. That night I laid down not far
from where I was in the photo. After I blew up my rubber lady I
took off my boots to let my feet and boots
dry out while I lay there to sleep. I woke up a few hours later
and felt something touching my foot.
Opened my eyes and in the moonlight I saw a rat licking my toes.
I shook my foot and the rat left
and I went back to sleep. That was the last time for taking off
my shoes and socks at night.
My feet did appear to be somewhat cleaner."

Richard writes: "...not sure what the purple smoke is all
about but rest of smoke
is from burn piles. I also remember us using a few bamboo charges
to blow up a couple very large
brush piles for lanes of fire. "

center - Raymond Richard writes: "...fellow sitting on the
bunker is George Duncan
with 81s. His nickname was Truck Driver. The
one thing that stuck out about this LZ was all the perimeter
fortifications we had. Chainlink fence, steel stakes, concertina
wire, and barbed wire. Normally it was just sandbags."
LZ No Name - One serious
monkey
Raymond Richard writes: "Seemed like somebody in the mortar
platoon was always taking care of the monkeys.
Actually there were two monkeys. I cant remember the name
of the female monkey but the males name was Top.
I didnt care for either one of the monkeys. After one of
them crapped on my shoulder it was over."
LZ No Name - Feliciano
Negron on left, Raymond Richard on right
Raymond Richard writes: " The monkey is looking for bugs in
his hair. Negron really liked both the monkeys.
I remember seeing him with the monkeys for most his tour."

Raymond Richard writes: " Not sure how we acquired the
puppy. It and the monkey got along great.
Think it got sick after eating a can of ham and lima beans and
died. I can remember another dog that made it
to be full grown. It was all black and was called Raider."
