Quite the artillery piece to watch in action. Had a range of 32
miles

Later on we had moved in a position about 3 or 4 miles in front
of the units. What a noise overhead
as the 8" rounds thundered by. If you could here them you
knew you were safe. When the artillery unit
was not in use the barrel rested on a tripod near the front end
of the barrel to the ground

Can't remember if these self-propelled units were part of the
18th Field Artillery

The rumor was that this piece of artillery was designed because
of the Korean War and the mountains...
Tanks then not having the fire power and range to be effective.
As stated before the 8" Self Propelled Artillery Unit had a
maximum range of 32 miles
