Richard Lobus ---- Co A 1/22 Infantry 1966-1967

The following photos of the 8" howitzer were taken January 18-21 1967,
at a point on the map where three countries meet ( South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos).
It was just on our side of the border. We walked a long way to get there.

M110 self-propelled 8" howitzer

Smoke and gas leaves the gun's muzzle as it has just fired

Smoke escapes from the breech as the barrel is lowered
and the breech is opened to load another round

With the barrel lowered and the breech open,
artilleryman on right is about to insert a powder charge.
Note the hydraulic anchoring legs of the M110 in foreground.

The loading mechanism is retracted out of the way as the barrel is raised

Barrel is elevated, gun is sighted and ready to fire

Gun barrel in recoil and black smoke at muzzle as gun has just fired

The following photos were taken at the hospital at Cam Ranh Bay.
In late November I got malaria and recovered at the hospital.
I didn't get back to the Company until Christmas day.
