From his letters we know that Jean sent him at least one of the above medals as he wrote to her:
"I always wear the medal, I put it on my dog tag chain. In that way it will always be near my heart."

In his later life Gene Senerchia was founder and Grand Knight of the
Reverend Mitchell J. Cetkowski Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Gene's grandson Joe Mattioli in admiring the above awards and others received by his grandfather writes:

"it just reminded me of what a strong man and leader my grandfather was and all the work he did
for his charities and such. I'd like to think a lot of that came from the things he saw during the war, combined with his life."
