Elbert Harold Worland was born in Lakenan, Monroe County, Missouri on February 26, 1920.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by M. Block & Sons
in Chicago, Illinois.
He was drafted into the Army on
June 12, 1942 at Chicago Municipal Airport, Chicago, Illinois.
His home of residence
was listed as Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and his civilian
occupation was listed as General Industry Clerks.
He had completed four years of High School and was single with no
dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.
He was assigned to Company C from the 41st Replacement Battalion on September 27, 1944.
Private First Class Worland died
of wounds received in action in Germany during the Battle of the
Hürtgen Forest
on November 25, 1944.
Elbert H. Worland was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in California on November 25, 1947.
