Joe Sneed Wiles Jr. was born in
Tennessee on September 4, 1924. He was the son of Joe Sneed Wiles
Sr.
and Georgie Newsom Brown. His home of residence was listed as
Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.
He attended Georgia Tech University but did not complete his
course of studies because of his entry
into the Army. His expected year of graduation from Georgia Tech
would have been 1945.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry in the Officers Reserve Corps on March 30, 1943.
He was assigned to Company C from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool on June 27, 1944.
Second Lieutenant Wiles was killed in action in France, in the area of La Maugerie, on July 10, 1944.

Joe S. Wiles Jr. was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Tennessee.
