Johnnie Milton Walker was born
in Houston County, Alabama on July 7, 1916. Prior to entering
military service he was employed by the W.P.A. Project in Dothan,
Houston County, Alabama.
His first name is spelled Johnie in many accounts and Johnnie in other accounts.
He enlisted in the Infantry
branch of the Regular Army on December 10, 1940 at Jacksonville,
Florida. His home of residence
was listed as Dothan, Houston County, Alabama and his civilian
occupation was listed as Farm hands, general farms.
He had completed grammar school and was single with no
dependents. His religion was listed as Protestant.
(Note: When he registered for
the draft in October 1940 he indicated he was married. His
enlistment record
from December 1940 indicated he was single. Details about his
wife could not be found.)
Private First Class Walker was
killed in action in France, during the attack toward the town of
Periers,
on July 8, 1944.
Johnnie M. Walker was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Alabama.
