Howard William Thompson was born in Wharton, Potter County, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1908.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed at the Bayless Pulp & Paper Company
in Austin, Pennsylvania.
He was drafted into the Army on
December 10, 1943. His home of residence was listed as Austin,
Potter County,
Pennsylvania and his civilian occupation was listed as Drivers
and chauffeurs, bus, taxi, truck, and tractor.
He had completed grammar school and was single with dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
Private Thompson was killed in action in Germany, west of the Prüm river, on February 21, 1945.
Howard W. Thompson was
originally buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Foy Cemetery, Bastogne, Belgium in Block F Row 7 Grave 153 and
his remains were later
transferred and buried in Henri-Chapelle, in the 1947-1949 time
frame, when the temporary
cemeteries were shut down.
