John Thompson

Company C 22nd Infantry

John Thompson was born in Buffalo, New York in 1837.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company C of the 22nd Infantry on November 24, 1869
at Columbus, Ohio. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 8 ¼ inches tall,
had dark hair, gray eyes and a dark complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Gardener.

Thompson joined his Company at Fort Randall, Dakota Territory on December 21, 1869.

Private Thompson deserted on January 15, 1870 and was found frozen to death near Fort Randall
on February 11, 1870.

 

John Thompson was buried in the Post Cemetery at Fort Randall in grave # 65.

He was re-interred at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in June 1893.
