George Sovich was born in Glen Dale, Marshall County, West Virginia on April 25, 1921.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by the Marx Toy Company
in Glendale, West Virginia.
He was drafted into the Army on
October 14, 1942 at Clarksburg, West Virginia. His home of
residence was
listed as Marshall County, West Virginia and his civilian
occupation was listed as Semiskilled Warehousing,
Storekeeping, Handling, Loading, Unloading. He had completed
grammar school and was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Catholic.
He was awarded the Good Conduct
Medal as a Private in Company B,
in Headquarters 22nd Infantry General Orders No. 14 dated
December 31, 1943
at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
He was wounded in action on June 11, 1944 and returned to duty on November 12, 1944.
Private Sovich was killed in
action in Germany on November 16, 1944, the first day of the
participation of the 22nd Infantry in the Battle of the Hürtgen
Forest.

buried in the temporary cemetery at Henri-Chapelle
in Block Y Row 10 Grave 188, and was moved to the permanent
cemetery at Henri-Chapelle,
in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the temporary cemeteries were
shut down.
