Charlie Scruggs was born in Trousdale County, Tennessee on January 29, 1919.
He was drafted into the Army on
January 15, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. His home of
residence was
listed as Hartsville, Trousdale County, Tennessee and his
civilian occupation
was listed as Farm Hands, General Farms. He had completed grammar
school
and was single with dependents. His religion was listed as
Protestant.
He was awarded the Good Conduct
Medal as a Private in Company D, at Fort Dix, New Jersey,
in Headquarters 22nd Infantry General Orders No. 5 dated 6 June
1943.
Private First Class Scruggs died on June 14, 1944 of wounds received in action in France.

Charlie Scruggs was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #1 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Tennessee.
