Robert James Ryan was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 26, 1926.
His home of residence was listed
as Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He was drafted into the Army
on August 9, 1944 at New York City, New York. He had completed
three years of High School and was
single with no dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.
He had entered the New York
Guard on December 6, 1943, and was given an Honorable Discharge
in order to enter the U.S. Armed Forces.
He was assigned to Company B
from the 48th Replacement Battalion on
January 27, 1945.
Private Ryan was killed in
action in Germany during the battle for the city of Prüm
on February 12, 1945.
Robert J. Ryan was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Foy Cemetery, Bastogne, Belgium and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New York.
