Thomas J. Russell was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1874.
He enlisted as a Private for a
period of 3 years in Company C of the 22nd Infantry on October
24, 1900
at Springfield, Massachusetts. His enlistment record indicated
that he stood 5 feet 9 inches tall, had dark brown hair,
blue eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was
listed as nickel plater.
Private Russell died on October 7, 1901 when he drowned in the Rio Grande de Pasig River.

Infantry for the month of October 1901
his date of death was recorded as October 8, 1901.
Thomas J. Russell was buried in the military cemetery at San Isidro on the Island of Luzon.
His body was returned to the
United States aboard the transport Logan arriving in San
Francisco,
California on October 13, 1902. His body was then shipped to his
mother Mrs. Jonathan Russell
in Springfield, Massachusetts.
