Walter Runyon was born in Belfry, Pike County, Kentucky on October 19, 1915.
He was drafted into the Army on
October 18, 1943 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. His home of
residence
was listed as Road Fork, Kentucky and his civilian occupation was
listed as
Semiskilled Chauffeurs and Drivers, Bus, Taxi, Truck, and
Tractor. He had
completed grammar school and was single with dependents. His
religion was
listed as Protestant.
He was assigned to Company D from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool on August 2, 1944.
Private First Class Runyon was
killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen
Forest
on November 24, 1944.
Walter Runyon was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Kentucky.
Walter Runyon is buried in Stanton Cemetery, Stanton, Kentucky.
