Private First Class Runnels died
on November 19, 1944 of wounds received in action in Germany
during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest.

Perry Runnels Jr. in the casualty lists of the 22nd Infantry for
the month of November 1944 indicating
that he was Seriously Wounded in Action (SWA) on November 19, 1944. His status was later changed to Died Of Wounds (DOW).
Note that in the 22nd Infantry records Runnels had no indication of a middle initial (NMI).
Perry L. Runnels Jr. was buried
in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Indiana.
