Perry Lester Runnels Jr. was born in New Carlisle, St. Joseph County, Indiana on September 26, 1924.

His home of residence was listed as New Carlisle,
St. Joseph County, Indiana. His religion was listed as Protestant.

His Army serial number indicates he was drafted into the Army.

He was assigned to Company C from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on July 11, 1944.

He was promoted to Private First Class in Company C on August 20, 1944.

Private First Class Runnels died on November 19, 1944 of wounds received in action in Germany
during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest.

Note that in the 22nd Infantry records Runnels had no indication of a middle initial (NMI).

 

Perry L. Runnels Jr. was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Indiana.
