Willard Vincent Ofsthun was born in Karlstad, Kittson County, Minnesota on April 2, 1911.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was married on September 16, 1940 to his wife Valerie in Wahpeton, North Dakota.

He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant (AUS) on May 8, 1943.

Ofsthun was assigned to Company B 22nd Infantry as an Infantry Unit Commander on
June 26, 1944 and joined the Company on that date.

2nd Lieutenant Ofsthun was killed in action in the vicinity of
La Maugerie, France on July 9, 1944.

Willard V. Ofsthun was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and later his remains were returned to the
United States where he was interred in Minnesota on November 17, 1948.
