August F. Neithardt

Company C 22nd Infantry

August Neithardt was born in Saxonia, Germany in 1850.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company C of the 22nd Infantry on July 18, 1870
at Brooklyn, New York. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 9 ˝ inches tall, had brown hair,
blue eyes and a light complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Carpenter.

 

Private Niethardt died of Apoplexy at the Lower Brulé Agency, Dakota Territory
on December 30, 1872.

 

August Neithardt was buried in the cemetery at the Lower Brulé Agency in Grave number 7.
Some time later his remains were re-interred in the National Cemetery at Fort McPherson, Nebraska.
