Burlie Odell Neal was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina on May 15, 1925.
He was drafted into the Army on
May 19, 1944 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His home of residence
was listed
as Vale, North Carolina, and his civilian occupation was listed
as Farm Hands, General Farms. He had
completed grammar school and he was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
In some accounts his first name is spelled Burley.
He was assigned to Company D from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on November 21, 1944.
Private Neal was killed in
action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest
on November 28, 1944.

Burlie O. Neal was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in North Carolina.
