Robert Abraham Muthard was born in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania on March 16, 1919.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by W.F. Hofford, Inc.
in Bowmanstown, Pennsylvania.
He was drafted into the Army on
August 27, 1941 at Camp Lee, Virginia. His home of residence was
listed
as Lehighton, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, and his civilian
occupation was listed as
unskilled transportation occupations. He had completed four years
of High School
and at the time of induction was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
He was married in June 1942.
He was assigned to Company A as
a Sergeant from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on June 17, 1944.
He was wounded in action on July
8, 1944 and returned to duty
on September 22, 1944.
He was transferred to Headquarters Company 1st Battalion on September 23, 1944.
Sergeant Muthard was killed in
action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest
on November 17, 1944.

Robert A. Muthard was originally
buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery, Henri-Chapelle Cemetery,
Eupen, Belgium and later his remains were returned to the United
States where he was
interred in Pennsylvania on April 16, 1948.
