Sam David Morris was born in Sherwood, Franklin County, Tennessee on July 21, 1921.

He was drafted into the Army on July 10, 1942, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His home of residence was listed
as Battiest, Mc Curtain County, Oklahoma, and his civilian occupation was listed as farmer. He had
completed Grammar School and at the time of induction was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

The date of his assignment to the 22nd Infantry could not be found.

He was promoted from Private First Class to Sergeant in Company B 22nd Infantry on December 7, 1944.

The date of his transfer to Company A could not be found.

Sergeant Morris was killed in action in Germany, near Bad Mergentheim, on April 2, 1945.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 88
dated 30 November 1944.

 

Sam D. Morris was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Saint Avold Cemetery, Metz, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Oklahoma.
