Darrell McInnis was born in Anacoco, Vernon Parish, Louisiana on April 17, 1923.

Prior to entering military service he was employed by the G.E. Supply Corporation
in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was drafted into the Army on February 22, 1943, at Shreveport, Louisiana. His home of residence was listed
as Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and his civilian occupation was listed as paymasters, payroll clerks and timekeepers.
He had completed four years of High School and he was single with dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was assigned to Company A as a Corporal from the 4th Infantry Division
replacement pool on June 25, 1944.

He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on August 17, 1944.

 

Staff Sergeant McInnis was killed in action in the vicinity of Brandscheid, Germany,
during the first penetration of Germany by the 22nd Infantry on September 15, 1944.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 8
dated 15 January 1945.

 

 

Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal

 

 

Darrell McInnis was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Fosse Cemetery, Namur, Belgium and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Louisiana in 1949.
