William Harold McDonald was born in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York on August 28, 1919.

He was drafted into the Army on February 24, 1942. His home of residence was listed
as Elmira Heights, Chemung County, New York and his civilian occupation was listed as
mechanics and repairmen. He had completed two years of High School
and was married to Kathryn Hayduk with one son James William McDonald.
His religion was listed as Catholic.

Private First Class McDonald was killed in action in France during the attack against Cherbourg
on June 23, 1944.

 

 

William H. McDonald was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and his remains were later returned
to the United States where he was reinterred in New York on January 10, 1949.
