Dan Lawrence McClellan was born in Lulaton, Wayne County, Georgia on May 4, 1920.

Before entering the Army he was a butcher at Howard's Market in Waycross, Ware County, Georgia.

He enlisted in the Army of the United States (AUS) for the duration of the war plus six months,
on December 9, 1941 at Jacksonville, Florida.

He had completed grammar school and listed his civilian occupation as Semiskilled meatcutters,
except in slaughtering and packing houses. At the time of induction he was single with no dependents.

In the records of the 22nd Infantry he listed his home of residence as Ware County, Georgia.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

McClellan was assigned to Company B 22nd Infantry on April 12, 1944
at Newton Abbot, Devon, England.

He was wounded in action on June 7, 1944 and returned to duty on August 2, 1944.

 

Private First Class McClellan was killed in action in Germany,
in the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, on November 17, 1944.

 

 

Dan McClellan was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Georgia.
