Gilbert I. Martinez was born in Del Norte, Rio Grande County, Colorado on March 30, 1910.
He was drafted into the Army on
July 28, 1942 at Pueblo, Colorado. His home of residence was
listed as
Rio Grande County, Colorado and his civilian occupation was
listed as Farm Hands, General Farms.
He had completed grammar school and was single with no
dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.
He was assigned to Company B
from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on July 17, 1944.
Private First Class Martinez died of wounds received in action in Germany on September 17, 1944.
Gilbert I. Martinez was buried
in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Fosse Cemetery, Namur, Belgium and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Colorado.
