Samuel J.Maccarone was born in Pennsylvania on September 8, 1913. He was drafted into the Army
on September 17, 1943 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His home of residence was listed as
Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and his civilian occupation was listed as
Barbers, Beauticians, And Manicurists. He had completed three years of High School
and was married. His religion was listed as Catholic.

Samuel J. Maccarone had been overseas for seven months and was wounded August 8, sending the Purple Heart
home to his wife and daughter, Andrea, who was born a month after he sailed. ¹

Private Maccarone was killed in action on the Belgian/German border during the
Battle of the Hürtgen Forest on November 28, 1944.
