Orby Lee Long was born in
Nakina, North Carolina on December 26, 1923. He was drafted into
the Army
on May 22, 1944 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His home of
residence was listed as Columbus County,
North Carolina and his civilian occupation was listed as Farm
Hands, General Farms.
He had completed grammar school and was single with no
dependents. His religion was
listed as Protestant.
He was assigned to Company B from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on November 26, 1944.
Private Long was killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest on November 28, 1944.
Orby L. Long was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in North Carolina.
