Ralph Eugene Linch was born in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia on June 14, 1916.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by the Thompson's Hotel
in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was drafted into the Army on
May 22, 1941 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia. His home of
residence
was listed as Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia and his civilian
occupation was listed as
Semiskilled Occupations In Manufacture Of Furniture. He had
completed
grammar school and was single with no dependents. His religion
was listed as Protestant.
At an unknown date he was married to Rachel Vansant and was still married to her when he died.
He was awarded the Good Conduct
Medal in Headquarters 22nd Infantry Motorized General Orders No.
5,
dated June 8, 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Private First Class Linch was
killed in action in France during 1st Battalion's attack against
the
German coastal batteries at Crisbecq on June 7, 1944.
Ralph E. Linch was buried in
Block E Row 8 Grave 150 in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #1 at Carentan, France and was moved to the
permanent cemetery at
Colleville-sur-Mer, in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the
temporary cemeteries were shut down.
