Richard Joseph Leary was born in Port Chester, Rye, Westchester County, New York on February 5, 1914.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by Westchester Asbestos Distributors
in Port Chester, New York.
He was drafted into the Army on
May 11, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governors Island, New York. His home of
residence
was listed as Westchester County, New York and his civilian
occupation was listed as
Skilled Asbestos And Insulation Workers. He had completed three
years of High
School and was single with dependents. His religion was listed as
Catholic.

Private First Class Leary was
killed in action in France during the attack against
the Quineville ridge on June 14, 1944.
Richard J. Leary was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New York.
