Keith Kershaw was born in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska on October 15, 1911.

Prior to entering military service he was employed by the Department of the Interior -
U.S. Fish And Wild Life Service in Portland, Oregon.

He was drafted into the Army on November 18, 1942 at Portland, Oregon.
His home of residence was listed as Multnomah County, Oregon and his civilian
occupation was listed as Professional Occupations. He had completed four years of college
and was married. His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry on July 29, 1943.

He was assigned to Company C from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on July 11, 1944.

Second Lieutenant Keith Kershaw was killed in action in France on July 25, 1944
during Operation Cobra, the breakout from Normandy.

Tuesday, 5 September 1944

Lt. Kieth Kershaw, formerly of Grand Island, was killed in action in France July 29, according to word received
from the war department by his wife, the former Elinor Bressie, Portland, Ore., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Kershaw, Cody, Wyo. A graduate of Grand Island Senior High school in the class of 1931, Lt. Kershaw
was prominent as a football player and participated in dramatic work. He was an active member of the Grand Island chapter,
Order of DeMolay, becoming a past master counselor here. Following his graduation from Oregon State college in 1940,
he was employed as a field biologist by the Oregon State Game commission. Entering the service in 1942, he graduated from
the infantry officers' candidate school in Fort Benning, Ga., late in 1943. He went overseas in April, 1944,
and participated in the invasion of France.

Surviving besides his wife and parents, is one brother, Edward Kershaw, Corvallis, Ore. While residents of Grand Island,
Lt. Kershaw's father was employed by the American Express company. Mr. Kershaw was transferred to Cody, Wyo.,
several years ago

Keith Kershaw was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Marigny Cemetery, St. Lô, France and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Oregon on January 27, 1949.
