William Charles Kemp was born in Madison, Lake County, Ohio on September 18, 1921.
He was drafted into the Army on
April 19, 1943 at Columbus, Ohio. His home of residence was
listed as
Madison County, Ohio and his civilian occupation was listed as
Semiskilled Chauffeurs And Drivers, Bus,
Taxi, Truck, And Tractor. He had completed grammar school and was
single with dependents.
His religion was listed as Catholic.
He was assigned to Company B
from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on July 17, 1944.
He was wounded in action on July
29, 1944 and returned to duty
on September 18, 1944.
Private First Class Kemp was
killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen
Forest
on November 18, 1944.
William C. Kemp was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Ohio.
