John Fulton Keane was born in Paisley, Scotland on February 21, 1917.
He was drafted into the Army on
June 19, 1941 at Trenton, New Jersey. His home of residence was
listed as
Essex County, New Jersey, and his civilian occupation was listed
as Semiskilled Chauffeurs And Drivers,
Bus, Taxi, Truck, And Tractor. He had completed two years of High
School and was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Catholic. At the time of induction he
was not a United States citizen.
The date of his assignment to
the 22nd Infantry could not be found, but he was with the
Regiment
at least by 1943, as he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as a
Private First Class in Company D,
in Headquarters 22nd Infantry General Orders No. 5 dated 8 June
1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
He was promoted from Sergeant to Technical Sergeant on September 18, 1944.
Technical Sergeant Keane was
killed in action in Germany near Weinsheim
on April 4, 1945.

He was also awarded the Belgian Fourragere
John F. Keane was originally
buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery # 3574 at
Saint-Avold, France in Block YY Row 12 Grave 138. His remains
were later transferred
to the permanent cemetery at Saint-Avold in the 1947-1949 time
frame, when the temporary cemeteries
were shut down.
