Harry Lester Johnston was born in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1925.

He was drafted into the Army on November 1, 1943 at Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. His home of residence
was listed as Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania and his civilian occupation was listed as
Unskilled nonprocess occupations in manufacturing. He had completed two years of
High School and was single with no dependents. His religion was listed as Protestant.

He began service in the European Theater of Operations on June 1, 1944.

He was assigned to Company C from the 4th Infantry Division
replacement pool on June 25, 1944.

Sergeant Johnston was killed in action in Germany on September 16, 1944 , near the town of Sellerich,
during the 22nd Infantry's first penetration into Germany.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 75,
dated 17 October 1944.

Harry L. Johnston was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Foy Cemetery, Bastogne, Belgium and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Pennsylvania.
