Donald Edward Humbert was born in York County, Pennsylvania on April 9, 1925.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed at the American Wire Fabrics Corporation
in Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania.
He was drafted into the Army on
July 24, 1943 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His home of residence
was listed as Manchester, York County, Pennsylvania and his
civilian occupation was listed as
Skilled Occupations In The Manufacture Of Miscellaneous Products.
He had completed
grammar school and was single with no dependents. His religion
was listed as Protesant.
Humbert received basic training at Camp Hood, Texas. He arrived in England in March 1944. ¹
He was assigned as a Private to
Company C from the 4th Infantry Division
replacement pool on June 25, 1944.
He was promoted to Private First Class on November 1, 1944.
Private First Class Humbert was
killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen
Forest
on November 27, 1944.
Donald E. Humbert was originally
buried in the temporary cemetery at Henri-Chapelle
in Block CC Row 8 Grave 150, and was moved to the permanent
cemetery at Henri-Chapelle,
in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the temporary cemeteries were
shut down.
