John H. Horton

John H. Horton was born at Fort Bridger, Wyoming Territory in 1858.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company D of the 22nd Infantry on July 8, 1879
at Fort Gibson, Indian Territory. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 6 feet 1 inches tall,
had fair hair, gray eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Laborer.

 

Corporal Horton died at Fort Marcey, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Indian Territory on January 19, 1883.

In the Returns of the 22nd Infantry for the month of January 1883 his cause of death was recorded as:

"Small Pox" contracted in service, and in line of duty.
