David W. Hines

David Wilson Hines was born in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, Maryland on May 29, 1925.

Prior to entering military service he was employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Company
in Silver Spring, Maryland.

He was drafted into the Army on September 25, 1943, at Baltimore, Maryland.
He listed his home of residence as Montgomery County, Maryland, and his civilian occupation
as gardeners and groundskeepers, parks and cemeteries. He had completed Grammar School
and at the time of induction was single with no dependents. He was married and had a daughter
before going overseas. His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was assigned as a Private to Company A from the 4th Infantry Division
replacement pool on June 25, 1944.

 

Private First Class Hines was killed in action in the vicinity of Krinkelt, Belgium, on October 7, 1944.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 91 dated 21 December 1944.

David W. Hines was originally buried in the temporary cemetery at Henri-Chapelle
in Block F Row 7 Grave 139, and was moved to the permanent cemetery at Henri-Chapelle,
in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the temporary cemeteries were shut down.
